Angela Malik Modern Asian Deli Two Stars

May 31, 2014

What a disappointment. This beautiful looking shop/cafe/cookery school on the corner of Grove Road as you turn in to the car park (where Budgens used to be) had looked so inviting driving past that hubby, youngest and I thought we’d have a Saturday lunch there. Unfortunately the design of the shop window and the graphics are the most tasteful elements. The food displays are not inviting and the food itself bland. Surprisingly cold harissa burger – surely that should be freshly fried and hot? – and mini samosas microwaved. I went for the chicken tikka, indian coleslaw and butternut squash salad. None of it remarkable, and certainly nothing to make me want to try the cookery school.

Next time we’ll go to Farm W5 just up the road where the salads and breads are seriously tasty.

    Dear Sarah

We have seen that you came into Modern Asian Deli and were disappointed with your meal.

My name is over the door and as such I take all customer comments and feedback very seriously. I am very upset to see you didn’t enjoy your experience with us and would like to invite you back in at a time to suit you so that I can explain our concept and how we work.

We are a deli not a restaurant so don’t have a full kitchen on site (due to planning restrictions in Ealing) all our food is produced in our Acton kitchens and brought in daily. Our menu, at this first stage of launch, is primarily designed around salads and proteins with a strong gluten free emphasis, so we don’t have a huge bread selection. All recipes are made with the very best ingredients and I personally supervise everything that comes from the kitchen. Our food is served chilled when you take away for the customer to reheat at home or their office (therefore also do not having to charge VAT). For our sit in customers and we have installed the latest microwave technology to ensure our hand made food in reheated for a minimum amount of time to ensure it is not spoiled . Our harissa burger is designed to be served simply heated through so that it is not cold when you eat it. Our prices are extremely competitive versus places like The Grove or Farm W5. We are evolving all the time and we are making changes almost every day to our menu and offering. In the next week along with the cookery classes starting we are introducing our ‘create your own supper box’ from our new curry bar and then later in the month Thali evenings with BYO.

I hope to have the opportunity to explain more behind my idea of creating a new eating, shopping and cooking experience with my Modern Asian Deli so would be delighted if you would come back in. You can contact me at angela@angelamalik.co.uk
